Hi! My name is Nora.
For as long as I can remember, I was always the odd one out. It felt like I was speaking a language different from those around me. As I grew older, I started appreciating my unique perspective more and more, until I realized it was actually one of my core strengths. It’s an edge I possess.
When I was 12, I read my first psychology book and was immediately OBSESSED. Not only did I know this was what I wanted to be, but I also knew I would not settle for anything less than becoming the absolute best psychologist in the world. I devoured every book I could get my hands on. And so what followed was me testing out every single theory I possibly could, observing what people were like, and trying to figure out why they were so.
At 21 years old, I completed my BSc Applied Psychology and immediately started my own company. I had been waiting to do that for decades. it seemed. So, if you live in the Netherlands, you may know me from the company I started in 2015, when I was only 21: “Altaïr”. There I learned that there is a massive wall between people and healthcare professionals. Whether it was the government funding programs or insurance, the people with power weren’t always accepting of things they were unable to envision yet or simply didn’t understand. Our work style was way ahead, I’m talking light-years over here. The clients wanted to be helped in a certain way, yet the people in charge of the money demanded it be done their way.
While figuring out how to pierce through this system, in what felt like years of fighting brown bears with my arms tied behind my back, I also continued studying Clinical Neuropsychology at Leiden University. Because, either I am nuts or just like suffering. Or both.
Anyway, moving forward. We got a chance to move to Saudi Arabia, which meant giving up everything we had. Despite that my company was like my baby, it also felt like someone said to me: ‘’Here, have a million dollars and most of your dreams, or you can… you know, keep fighting bears until you eventually die.’’
Did I have to think about it? Yes… and no. We packed our stuff and moved. I had no idea how things would progress and what I would do moving forward. Then COVID-19 struck and things changed rapidly. During the lockdown people were more in need of help than ever before. They were stuck at home, often alone, isolated and staring their demons right in the soul. Psychological complaints surged and people’s symptoms increased.
I started accepting some clients, seeing what it was like. To my great surprise, online sessions had a greater impact than working in-office. It’s like there were fewer distractions, it was somehow more intimate than sitting across each other awkwarly in a room, there was more comfort and it felt like I had a fuller view of the client: we achieved in 1 or 2 session, what normally took 7 to 8.
A new company was born. And before I knew it I had, clients asking for me from all over the world. Currently I’ve had clients in more than 14 countries. And this is with zero marketing.
But let me tell you a secret.
That was my technique all along.
I wanted to untangle people so thoroughly, and advise them so precisely and wisely, that they’d feel compelled to tell their friends. And if any of those friends came to me too, they’d tell their friends.
And so on.
So, as they were told before by someone one, let them tell you too.
